An individual can row or sail up to a total of 2 times total (NOT each year) before being required to become a member and pay annual boat dues. (If you have already had 2 free rows or sails in prior years, you are not eligible for any more free rows or sails and will be required to pay membership and boat dues).

All individuals must sign a joint waiver each year before getting on our boats. Please sign the waiver ONLINE ahead of time. If you are not able to complete it online, extra paper forms are located in the lock box at the dock. All coxes will verify passengers have signed a waiver before taking any passengers out on the boats.

Because these historic vessels are completely keel-less, they demand active seamanship, precise coordination, and a true understanding of how wind, sail trim, and crew weight interact to stabilize and power the boat.

This hands-on program is designed to transform you into an effective, versatile crew member. You won't just sit along for the ride; you will actively rotate through every critical position on the vessel.

Master Every Position

The Helm (Skippering): Experience the direct, powerful feedback of a traditional long-tiller. Without a heavy keel to self-correct, you will learn the fine art of keeping the boat balanced through active steering, anticipating puffs, and reading the water.
The Main Sheet: Manage the massive, distinctive mainsail. You will learn how to quickly power up or spill wind to control the boat's heel, keeping the vessel fast and upright.
The Jib: Master the mechanics of headsail trim on an open boat, managing tacks smoothly and working in perfect sync with the main sheet handler to maintain the boat's momentum.
Traditional Rigging & Boat Prep: Learn the authentic setup of the mast, spars, and lines from the dock up. You'll master the essential knots, hardware, and safety checks unique to these traditional open craft.

Every session is split into two focused blocks to maximize your progression:

Master Every Position

The Helm (Skippering): Experience the direct, powerful feedback of a traditional long-tiller. Without a heavy keel to self-correct, you will learn the fine art of keeping the boat balanced through active steering, anticipating puffs, and reading the water.
The Main Sheet: Manage the massive, distinctive mainsail. You will learn how to quickly power up or spill wind to control the boat's heel, keeping the vessel fast and upright.
The Jib: Master the mechanics of headsail trim on an open boat, managing tacks smoothly and working in perfect sync with the main sheet handler to maintain the boat's momentum.
Traditional Rigging & Boat Prep: Learn the authentic setup of the mast, spars, and lines from the dock up. You'll master the essential knots, hardware, and safety checks unique to these traditional open craft.

Structured for Learning

Every session is split into two focused blocks to maximize your progression:

1. Chalkboard & Dockside Briefing	~20 Mins	Reviewing the day's specific maneuver goals, reading the local wind/tide conditions, and planning the crew rotation.
2. On-the-Water Rotation	Remainder	Intensive, active handling. Crew members will regularly swap positions so everyone gets dedicated time at the helm and on the sheets.
